Update 11th January: A comment from EP Wendy Mericle on Felicity now features at the bottom of this article.
First of all, I need to preface this article by saying that if you’re not interested in learning major spoilers about what happens to Felicity when Arrow returns in February, click away now.
We’re not kidding. Major spoilers.
OK. So, as we saw in the midseason finale, Darkh’s men attacked Oliver’s car, and in the process, Felicity suffered at least one gunshot wound. Her fate was left in the balance, and the promos for the midseason premiere suggest that Felicity isn’t going to be in great shape when the show returns.
This week, some behind-the-scenes photos were posted on Twitter, which suggest that Felicity’s injury won’t kill her, but will put her into a wheelchair.

About a day after these photos went up, Marc Guggenheim sent out a rather odd and context-lacking tweet about an upcoming plot point.
I don't normally comment on spoilers, but an upcoming episode features a Felicity HALLUCINATION. Make of that what you will. @EmilyBett

So, maybe that BTS shot was a hallucination? Judging by this tweet, it seems not.
Felicity has hallucinations in upcoming episode, but not episode 14 which was the episode they were filming with her in wheelchair #Arrow

Then, today, the Australian promo for the midseason premiere made its way online, and it reveals exactly what will happen to Felicity. Major spoilers here, even more so than above.

Based on this, and my (very) limited knowledge of comic book happenings, I’d have perhaps assumed that the show is setting it up for her to become Oracle. Well, based on this comment from EP Wendy Mericle to TVLine, it seems not.
“That’s something we definitely talked about [doing] with Felicity in the beginning…. But yeah, it will not be Oracle, sadly. People have to tune in to see what happens.”
Arrow returns to Sky 1 sometime this February.
