5×22: Missing Preview

With just two episodes left in the season, “Missing” sets in motion the final stage of Chase’s plans and pushes Oliver onto the back foot.

Perhaps the only real issue with “Missing”, aside from a series of flashbacks in which Kovar is still alive (because reasons) and torturing Oliver that feel all too similar to the events of “Kapiushon”, is that if you know anything about the episode going in, you can probably predict exactly how it will go. (So, feel free to check out of here now, if you want to know nothing more. I won’t be offended.)

Chase’s imprisonment at the end of last week’s episode was never going to be the end of the story – there are two episodes left this season, after all – but this hour kicks off with the team celebrating victory and even thinking about what they might do with Prometheus behind bars.

But this is Arrow, and hints of happiness and joy are often quickly snuffed out. Such is the case here, with Oliver quickly made to realise that things aren’t as peachy as they seem, as members of the team begin to disappear. The city may not be being destroyed, but it’s May – something bad was always going to happen.

There isn’t much more that can be said without spoiling the hour. Most of the tension comes from Oliver’s desperation to keep his friends and family safe, all the while determined not to play Chase’s game.

It’s the best pentultimate hour since season one and sets up what looks to be a thrilling finale.

“Missing” airs on Thursday 25th May at 9pm on Sky 1.
